Offender Re-Entry Programs
Serious & Violent Offenders Re-entry Incentive (SVORI)
This program, started in 2004, is a partnership between the Department of Corrections, state and local agencies and community faith-based organizations. It targets inmates between the ages of 18 and 35 who will be released and living in Palm Beach County. Inmates referred through this program receive case management, linkage to other community resources, substance & alcohol abuse screening and job placement. Goodwill’s role in this partnership is that of Vocational Evaluation Services. Evaluators provide comprehensive evaluation for inmates coming from Brevard, Indian River, Martin and Palm Beach Counties on a pre-release or post-release basis. The evaluations are tailored to the offender and tests academics, aptitudes and vocational interests. To date, Goodwill has assessed 63 offenders.
Weed & Seed Re-entry Program
This program began in May of 2006 and is a collaboration between Gulfstream Goodwill and the three local Weed & Seed programs of Palm Beach County (Delray, West Palm Beach and Riviera Beach). It targets non-violent offenders returning to the above communities and assists them in becoming productive citizens, reducing the chances of re-offending. Gulfstream Goodwill’s Re-Entry Program Manager is the primary “point person” in building linkages between partners in the re-entry effort, establishing contacts with ex-offenders and facilitating the delivery of services in order to support their successful re-entry into society. Kenneth, a program participant, showed his appreciation in a letter by saying “Thank you for all your help on my release from prison. You are an asset to this community providing a much needed service. With your help, I have achieved both of my goals: Full –time employment and a valid driver’s license in less than 60 days!”
