Did You Know?

In 2008, the United States Census Bureau reported that 54.4 million Americans over the age of 5 have at least one disability, this is a ration of at least 1-in 5 US residents have a disablitiy. THAT"S 19% of our population. Individuals are classified as having a disability if any of the three conditions are true: (1) they are 5 years old or older and have a sensory, physical, mental, or self-care disability: (2) they are 16 years and over and have difficulty going outside the home; (3) they are 16-to-64 years old and have an employment disability.

Why is this important?

This is important if your organization is not recognizing the potential employment solutions or consumer buying power of 19% of our population or 49.7 million Americans.

Be Informed...

Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Training Department provides informational sessions on interacting with applicants and employees with disabilities. Some topics offered to our community partners are:

  • Teaching employees and/or students with learning disabilities
  • Top advantages of hiring persons with disabilities
  • Working with people with Disabilities
